Laser scanning was used and a model was developed from the point cloud.

CSS was recently tasked with the surveying of some aspects of the facades of Rundle Mall.

As many of the facades are complex, incorporating heritage buildings, statues and intricate architectural details, we opted for laser scanning and modelling, rather than conventional surveying.

This allowed us to provide a more versatile, accurate plan, within a very short timeframe.

This project demonstrates a key capability that laser scanning can provide:
More cost effective - Because everything visible is located additional site visits can be minimised or avoided altogether, resulting in better project efficiency.

This capability allowed us to model new areas outside the original scope as requirements changed, without the need for additional site visits. We were also able to provide orthographic images of the facades for the entire Mall to assist with planning.
Several options were trialled to determine the best location with the fewest clashes against the existing structure.
